When I started my career in website development, I do not know exactly what was the difference between a business who has a website and those who does not have. It is just I’m creating a website just to fill my work experience, but when I got more projects it all started to make sense.
I started to analyze things. Why business owners spend so much just to have an online presence? Why is that even a small business who is just starting their business want to have a website? Why someone with a website already, do different marketing strategies or process instead of other techniques? Is it that important? Will it really help your business earn more?
Well, before I continue this article, let’s talk about first what is a website? Basically, a website is just a list of pages available for everyone to see through the use of the internet. Imagine a magazine, it has pages with contents; headings, body text, and images. Magazine’s designers perfectly layout the contents to deliver properly the message it has to say. It is the same concept for a website, but with a lot of improvements when it comes to business advantages.
I listed below 5 reasons why a website is really important for a business:
We know that it is hard to get customers when you are still starting your business. You have to do a lot of hard work to gain trust from your customers. Transparency is the key to every business if you want to gain your customer’s trust, you have to tell them everything your business has to offer, and by having a website, you can include everything for your customer before they even ask you.
Another thing, most likely your competitors have already a website, this gives a huge impact on your business. Who is more credible? your business that does not have a website or your competitor who is doing business already online.
For those who already have a business who does not have a website, why not use your testimonials or trusted customers to increase your sales by sharing them on your website. You can include testimonials page, to show your potential customers that your business can be trusted. Believe it or not, most people will search first for online reviews before they buy something.
Remember the magazine concept? Magazine and website have the same purpose, to deliver something important. They are both medium of certain information, whether it is for business or facts. The difference is, website is accessible everywhere around the globe 24/7/365, as long as you have internet.
Imagine you are selling your awesome product, and you want to sell it to another country, it is very expensive if you are going to build your store in that country. But with a website, you can still sell, you are not limited when it comes to demographic issues, because your website is accessible everywhere.
This is vital for business, proper marketing will help the business grow and increase sales, whether it is done offline or online. Having a website can really help you market your business
Let’s have a scenario, I am going to use marketing flyers. You hire a person (2 or more) who will distribute the flyers of your products or services in a certain place for a certain time, then at the end of the day, your staff will report to your office. So the question is, what happens in your marketing, is it successful or not? I believe that you will just know how many flyers you distribute on that day and that’s it.
As you can see, it’s a bit more expensive and not that effective enough. You hire 2 or more person to do the job, you have to pay for each person, and it is another expense for your business. Next is, you are just doing your marketing in a certain place in a limited time, what happen at night? let’s admit it, you cannot distribute flyers in a place where there are few people because it is just a waste of time and money.
Imagine you have a website, all the details of your business is on your website and of course, it is accessible everywhere every time, and you will just hire 1 person to do your marketing. This person will just share your website using social media or do any online marketing technique available. Nowadays, there are so many online marketing techniques available even though you are just starting, there are email marketing, even social media like Facebook can help you boost your page to reach your target customers, create your online ads and many more.
Saves you time
Most of the time, your customer will call or message you for your business information, make an appointment schedule, new product incoming, services and many more.
Sending emails, calling them one by one, answer their questions through phone calls and messages will take a lot of your time.
By having a website, you already saving a lot.
- Your customer wants to know your business background or business history, you can create a page where you can put your business history or an about page.
- You want your customer to contact you, but the new customer does not know how they can reach you, if you have a website, you can add a contact page where they can send their inquiries and questions.
- You are selling your products and services, and of course, you have a new customer that do not know how they can buy your products, by including an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page, you are already providing the answers that they need before they even call or message you.
- We know that you are busy enough doing the hard work in your business, and sometimes you forget to update your customers and it is normal in an everyday transaction, but it only gives a poor customer service. You have to tell your customer everything because they are always there at your website buying something, whether you will have weekly maintenance, or you will not operate in a specific day, or you will operate in holidays, etc. By including all your announcement on your website, you are being transparent in your day to day operations.
By doing this, you are already saving time and money of course, and also you are providing good customer service by providing them the information they need without even asking you directly.
Let’s go back to the flyers, I use this example in #3. How can we tell if this marketing strategy works or help us in marketing our business? How many people get interested in your business? where they came from? in what place exactly they found the flyers. This is some of the questions you are going to ask if you are doing marketing strategy like this. Let’s face it, it lacks information, because just what I have said in #3, you will just know the number of flyers distributed.
I’m not saying this kind of strategy is bad, but what I am saying is it lacks business information, and as the business owners you have to know everything not just your business but also your customers, and with today’s technology, you can add modern analytics in your website.
Google says: Analytics – information resulting from the systematic analysis of data or statistics.
Systematic analysis of data and statistics? So what is it? What will it do on your website? Actually what analytics do when properly configured and applied in your website is it returns meaningful data on what’s going in your website.
Some of the things that website analytics can do.
- Know your customers well, where they came from, are they foreign or local?
- What devices they are using to visit your website, are they using mobile phones or computers?
- How long they stay on your website.
- What page they actually visit
- Know your audience/visitors in real time.
- And many more.
That is just some of the advantages of having website analytics. You can now use that data/information to improve your website.
So that’s it, I have explained some of the advantages that may help you understands what is the benefits of having a website in business.
