The theme is responsible for the website’s appearance. Do you want your website to look like an elegant online store, a real estate website or a travel website? Just like a plugin, there are thousands of themes available some are free themes and some are paid themes. In this post, I will show you how to add a theme in your WordPress website.
To access the themes section, log in first to your admin pages. Click the “Appearance” menu item at the left side of your admin page. You will get redirected to the themes page where you can see all the list of your themes.
By default, you will have pre-installed themes, these are WordPress default themes. At the time I wrote this post, the default themes are “Twenty Nineteen”, “Twenty Seventeen” and “Twenty Sixteen”.
Just like the plugins, there are two ways on how you can install a theme:
- Downloading a theme from the WordPress repository.
- Uploading your theme manually.
Installing a theme via WordPress repository:
Click the “Add New” button at the upper part of your themes page. You will get redirected to the WordPress theme repository, where you can search and find the theme for your website.
To install a theme from the repository, just hover your mouse over your preferred theme and click the “Install” button. Wait until the installation is done, and click “Activate” button.
Installing a theme via manual upload.
Manual installation of themes was used for those third party or premium themes that need to be downloaded from their website.
In your themes page, click the “Add New” button. You will get redirected to the themes repository, at the upper part of the repository click the “Upload Theme” button.
Click “Choose File” button then find your theme zip file in your computer. When the upload is done, click the “Activate” button then you will get redirected back to the themes listing page.
